Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities mentioned they were alerted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then found numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police report early analysis show the substance was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior representative stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
