19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former trainer Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his skill to play at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, supported by an improved service.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
